20MAY2018. Finally finished populating the bare board. (less the rf transistor for xmit)
Ordered parts from Mouser and Digi Key when the board shipped.
I worked on the project off and on since then. A lot of off time.
Learned a lot about SMD soldering. Destroyed a cap and a inductor in the process.
Ordered more stuff to from Mouser....
Learned how to install the Arduino sketch....
Learning more about HSDR.
Learned about ground loops. (note all 3 jumpers must be in place on the headers, not just the signals)
Have the star tech unit, but haven't set it up yet. Have been using a Xonar 7 which works quite well.
Only using the receive side so far. It all works well so far. A lot of tweaking with HSDR is necessary to get
good results. It's not intuitive, but its not astro physics either. When HSDR is set right, it is an awesome ssb/am
receiver.
Just ordered the rf transistor pack from hobby pcb. Will install that and see if I can figure out the transmit side of things.
Also ordered the funky little bottom entry header for the arduino from 4ucon.
I used surface headers on top for right now, and it works ok but will never fit the case like that.
Just thought I'd throw this up to encourage any of the other bare board folks that haven't finished, to keep slogging away at it.
It was my first big SMD project. I had built pretty much all the Elecraft kit line K1,K2,KX1, as well as several of their mini boards in
the past. Will try to update this when I get the XMIT side of things going.
