Hi,

I haven't used a USB headset but there shouldn't be any issues with HDSDR.

As for PTT, HDSDR does allow for external rig control for frequency, mode and PTT via a serial port using CAT commands. This is 'normally' used by digital mode software like FLdigi and WSJT-X to control the SDR. You can used a small external device (like an Arduino Nano, Mini, Uno, etc.) to sent the key and unkey CAT commands in response to a contact closure (PTT switch).

You could also implement a direct frequency entry keypad, A/B memories maybe even a tuning knob.

I'll be happy to provide input on how to do this.

OK I'm working on detailed instructions. Watch this space:

In the meantime, get an Arduino Uno, download the IDE and Watch a YouTube on how to make it Blink.

Download IDE: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
