I still have my HBC 2nd run amp that is the forerunner of the HR50. I have it configured with a switch on the back that switches between the COR and a 1/8 inch phone jack for keying from a transmitter. Band switching is manual. My assumption is that if I connect the PTT and ground lines from the Aux jack of the RS-HFIQ to the key jack on the amp, I will have keying of the amplifier. Is this correct and are there any additional parts needed to protect the transmitter? I want to be sure. I once had my Flex 1500 setup in a similar manner but memory fails as to exactly how.

Yes the PTT output on the AUX jack can be used to key almost any external amplifier. The output is driven by a VOD207T opto-coupler which has a maximum open-circuit voltage of 70V and a continuous current rating of 30 mA.
